Cult Film Friday: Porky's (1982)

For those of us that grew-up in the 80s, Porky's was for many of us our first exposure to the the teen sex comedy genre of movies. Set in 1954, it tells the story of a bunch of horny high school kids who want to lose their virginity. The movie was panned by critics, but loved by fans, becoming the fifth highest grossing movie of that year. Most criticism was for its sexism and misogynistic themes. Go figure! It was a teen sex comedy aimed at young guys, what did they think the themes were going to be?

The plot revolves around the lads going to a well known dive bar in the Everglades called Porky's, in the hope of hiring finding a prostitute to satisfy their teen needs. Porky ends up ripping off the lads, and the boys conspire to seek revenge against the bar owner, eventually sinking the bar into the Everglades. The movie has some classically childish scenes that no-one who has ever seen the movie could forget. 

The shower scene for example, when Ms. Balbricker pulls tug-of-war style on Tommy's cock that he has stuck through a hole in the girls shower room. Or the scene featuring a young Kim Cattrall as the Phys Ed. teacher Miss Lynn "Lassie" Honeywell, who howls like a dog when she reaches orgasm, much to the delight of most of the students and teachers in the gym who can hear her. 

The movie spawned two sequels,  Porky's II: The Next Day (1983) and Porky's Revenge! (1985).
